Interview with Xavier Romero

by Animac

K3 Channel (from Televisió de Catalunya) is putting a strong bet on animation. Xavier Romero, content editor and co-production coordinator of the channel, had a talk with Animac and discussed the keys of the sector.

Q: We would like to talk to you about the programs oriented towards a young audience. When you were planning the creation of K3, how did you deal with age groups? What are the age zones? In literature, for example, there are certain limits.

A: With K3, you must start by drawing a line between what is animation, with a very important presence accounting for more than 70% of our total programs, and the rest, where our own productions would be the most important element.

When we talk about animation we are talking about co-productions, of purchasing an exterior product. As for our own-produced programs, they are basically documentaries and what we consider educational television. Of all the different distinctions that could be made, I would choose to differentiate between animation and what could be called strictly programs. In this range we could place the Club Super 3, 3xl.net and Info-k. These would be the programs with the clearest identity, what we could qualify as “mother programs”…
