Flipbook, open workshop

A flipbook is a pocket cartoon. It is created from handmade drawings in each page of a small notebook. When it is leaved though in a fast way, the cartoon can be seen. We will explain briefly what animation is. We will show different models of flipbooks. We will practise at the beginning to make a 2 pages flipbook.

Afterwards, each one will make one or two flipbooks of about 30 pages, accordint to participants’ speed and the inspiration. We will look and give our opinion on the results, and we will speak about movement (speed, gesture, time management, expression...) according to the wished effect.

Babar Sheikh, resident in Karachi (Pakistan), is a musician and an audiovisual creator. The wonderful lamp is the cinema. In this session both will transfer us to the contemporary and vital Pakistan. A session without animation to rest without truce.

At the hands of Francisco Isla we will make out the expressive capacities of the theremin, one of the first electronic instruments which is played without physical contact.  At rhythm of jazz, classic and improvisation we will come into its magic world. And next, ‘Don Sifón i Teletubis’ will put their musical T-shirt and underbodice on to the shorts of the experimental animation masters (Jan Svankmaier, Stan Brakage, Norman McLaren...).
